About Our Poppa Wahoo Collective

Poppa Wahoo was born out of a longtime dream in 2025, that started from a group of local Keys friends that just so happened to have some pretty legendary fathers. Story telling, many a fishing trip, a few twists and turns, and loss - all ingredients for a something wonderful to be born. Something that in itself would become legendary. Brothers Brian and David Epstein found the perfect vessel, a 54’ Hatteras and knew this was the boat. Poppa Wahoo is a labor of love between the brothers in honor of their father, photo journalist Bob Epstein, one of the pioneers of offshore saltwater fly fishing and original holder of many records in those categories. He published thousands of articles and authored over 20 books, as well as sat in on many radio shows and some TV spots. When the brothers found out that he would not be with us for too much longer, they decided to buy the boat so that he could go on to tell his stories, and share his adventures with our guests. Unfortunately, when the boat was purchased, he passed earlier than expected. At the funeral, Skip Bradeen, legendary Islamorada captain and great friend of Bob’s, offered to stand in for our father and be on the boat. By having a father that was in such a unique arena, the Epstein boys were influenced and mentored by such fishing royalty as Stu Apte, Flip Pallet, Lefty Kreh, George H.W. Bush and even legendary baseball player and fly fisherman Ted Williams.
